Dust Near Canary Islands - August 14th, 2011

Dust blows off the west coast of Africa, by Morocco, Western Sahara and Mauritania, and over the Canary Islands (top center), creating a golden veil offshore.

Visible through this veil are some clouds arranged in rows of swirls. These interesting patterns are Kármán Vortex Streets, double rows of spiralling vortices created by the unsteady separation of flow water vapor over the islands.
