Kampala, Capital of Uganda, on Shores of Lake Victoria – July 31st, 2010
This APM image stretches from the northern to the southern shore of Lake Victoria, one of the African Great Lakes. The lake occupies a shallow depression in the East African Plateau, and is divided between three countries: Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
Visible along its northern shores as a bright yellow area is Kampala, the largest city and capital of Uganda. Kampala is said to be built on seven hills, and although this is not quite accurate, the city is indeed located at higher altitudes.
In fact, Kampala features a tropical wet and dry climate, however due to city’s higher altitudes, average temperatures are noticeably cooler than what is typically seen in other cities with this type of climate.
