Mexico - January 15th, 2011

Lake Chapala, Mexico’s largest freshwater lake, is green with algae. The lake is located on the border between the states of Jalisco and Michoacán. It is also southeast of the city of Guadalajara, visible as a large grey area near the lake.

Lake Chapala is fed by the Lerma, Zula, Huaracha, and Duero Rivers, and drained by the Santiago River. Another river, the Verde (Green) River can be seen flowing through a steep canyon east of Guadalajara.
