A great cloud of dust and sand hangs over the Red Sea (image center) in this image from the Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) on ESA’s Envisat satellite captured on September 2, 2008. The cloud of dust begins at the border of Egypt (top left) and Sudan (below) and stretches southward to Eritrea and eastward across the Red Sea to Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
