Dust from Bay of Arguin to Canary Islands, Off Coast of West Africa – August 19th, 2012
22.2N 17.1WA thick plume of dust blows off the coast of Western Africa, from the Bay of Arguin in Mauritania (below), northward parallel to Western Sahara, reaching the Canary Islands (top edge). The dust completely obscures the waters of the Bay of Arguin, usually bright green from phytoplankton growth.
