Currents in the Adriatic Sea – November 3rd, 2008
In these images, we get a comparative look at the Adriatic Sea, near Venice, Italy.
In the radar image to the right, we can clearly see the water currents in the sea.
The smooth, calm areas are dark, whereas the choppier areas with greater motion are lighter in color.
The white areas on land are the most populated places. We can clearly see Venice and Mestre in the upper part of the image, as well as the city of Ravenna on the bottom. The dark streak through the center is the River Po.
In the true color satellite image on the left, however, which covers approximately the same area as the radar image, most of the view is covered by clouds. Neither the cities nor the sea currents can be seen.
