Canada - June 21st, 2011

Ice can still be observed in the Hudson Bay, Canada, in this image acquired on the first day of the northern hemisphere summer.

The southern extension of the Hudson Bay is known as James Bay. Sediments can be seen near its shoreline, particularly between Akimiski Island and the shore.

Other islands can be observed to the north, by the eastern shores of Hudson Bay. These are the Belcher Islands, an oddly-shaped archipelago in Qikiqtaaluk Region, Nunavut, that is spread out over almost 3,000 square kilometres (1,160 sq mi).
