Thick clouds can also be seen hanging over the Pacific Ocean, a common occurrence in the area due to a combination of atmospheric and oceanographic conditions. The dense white lines through the clouds are ship tracks, clouds formed around the exhaust released by passing ships.

is bounded by the Cascade Range, Trinity Alps and Klamath Mountains to the north, the Sierra Nevada to the east and the Coast Ranges and San Francisco Bay to the west, as far south as the Tehachapi Mountains.

USA - June 26th, 2010

The Great Central Valley of California is a vast agricultural region, visible here as a green area surrounded by tan, between mountains and the coast. Upon opening the full image, many individual fields can be observed, dotted across the area.

The valley is bounded by the Cascade Range, Trinity Alps and Klamath Mountains to the north, the Sierra Nevada to the east, the Tehachapi Mountains to the south, and the Coast Ranges and San Francisco Bay to the west.

Here, the San Francisco Bay appears greenish grey in color, due to sediments and some sun glint. What is frequently referred to as the San Francisco Bay is actually a system of several interconnected bays: sediments flow first into Suisun Bay, then through the Carquinez Strait into San Pablo Bay, then into the true San Francisco Bay.
