Wildfires by California-Nevada Border, USA – August 17th, 201240.2N 120W
Several wildfires burning in wester USA, near the border between the states of California (left) and Nevada (right), release thick plumes of smoke. Some of the most evident are the Reading fire in Lassen Volcanic National Park, the Chips fire in Plumas National Forest, and the Fort Complex fire in Klamath National Forest. All three were ignited by lightning.
The Chips fires is the largest of the three. It has consumed at least 57 square miles (148 square kilometers) and was 12 percent contained on Tuesday. The Reading fire has consumed at least 37 square miles and was 15 percent contained, whereas the Fort Complex Fire has burned 3 square miles and was 10 percent contained.
