Fires in China - October 8th, 2010

A thick cloud of grey smoke fills the skies over eastern China, reaching off coast and over the Yellow Sea. In the full image, the smoke can be seen extending further northward, beyond the sea.

The smoke is being released from fires that have been burning across the North China Plain over the last few days. As the plain is typically an agricultural area, it is likely that these fires were set by farmers in order to clear land.
