Fires in China - October 13th, 2010

The thick cloud of smoke covering most of this image was created by fires burning in Eastern China, across the North China Plain. Mountains keep the smoke from moving further to the west and north.

The thick smoke makes it difficult to see the Bohai Sea, at the center right. Upon opening the full image, however, it is possible to see a bit of the landscape below the smoke. The features that stand out are rivers, including the Yellow River (Huang He), which can be seen reaching the Bohai Sea.
