Thick Plumes of Smoke from Fires near Cheboksary Reservoir, Russia – July 8th, 201056.1N 47.2E
Several large fires release thick plumes of smoke in this image of western Russia. The smoke is mostly blowing towards the southwest, although the plume to the right shows a change in wind direction as smoke can be seen in a fan-shape from southeast to southwest.
The fires are located just north of the Volga River, near the Cheboksary Reservoir (visible in between the clusters of fires). The lake was created by the Cheboksary Dam, a hydroelectric dam on the Volga river, the latest of the Volga-Kama Cascade of dams.
