The Pantanal and Agricultural Fires in Mato Grosso, Brazil15S 57.1W
This image, which focuses on the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso near the border with Bolivia, shows several different landscapes. Towards the lower left is the Pantanal, a tropical wetland that consists of a variety of floodplain sub-regions. At over 140,000 km², it is the largest wetland in the world.
Some ridges of hills can be seen stretching upwards from the Pantanal, in the form of an arch, reaching first to the North then to the East. Agricultural areas are visible nearby, particularly to the north of the hills. Upon opening the full image, several agricultural fires can be observed releasing plumes of white smoke.
