India - November 9th, 2010

Smoke hangs in the air over India, south of the Himalayas. It is probably caused by agricultural fires – blazes set by farmers in order to clear the land.

While the Himalayas usually prevent the smoke from such fires from moving northward into Tibet, China, a hazy area can be seen in a valley at the top left.
