Smoke Over Northwestern India Continues to Thicken

India and Pakistan – November 8th, 2012

An extremely thick cloud of smoke continues to emanate from hundreds of agricultural fires in the state of Punjab, India. The smoke collects south of the Himalayas, completely obscuring the ground below. Although the smoke appears to originate mostly from agricultural fires, it is possible that factors such as urban and industrial smog also be contributing to the thick haze over the region.
