India and Bangladesh – December 1st, 2012

The smoke caused by agricultral fires in northern India still has not dissipated. Here, it can be seen hugging the southern slopes of the Himalayas, south of Nepal, and spreading eastward over Bangladesh. While setting fires to clear land for planting can be very useful for farmers, it also poses a health risk, particularly to children and the elderly.
