Smoke Over Northeastern Russia and Shelikhov Gulf

A thick cloud of smoke blows off the northeast coast of Russia, over the Shelikhov Gulf and towards the Kamchatka Peninsula. This smoke had previously been observed blowing over Sakhalin Island (click here for previous post).

The Shelikhov Gulf is a large gulf off the northwestern coast of Kamchatka, Russia. It is located in the NE corner of the Sea of Okhotsk and it branches into two main arms, the Gizhigin Bay on the west (partially veiled by smoke in this image) and the Penzhin Bay on the east. Its southwest corner is the P’yagin Peninsula and the Yamsky Islands.
