Caspian Sea - December 27th, 2010

Smoke from fires in Azbaijan spreads eastward over the southern Caspian Sea. Once the smoke reaches the sea it spreads northeast and southeast, however, the Alborz Mountains along the southern and southwestern coast prevent it from spreading further into Iran.

According to the Emergency Minister of Azerbaijan, the country’s fire service has extinguished 25,435 natural and man-caused fires since the creation of the ministry five years ago.
