Smoke Over Bangladesh and the Bay of Bengal22.3N 90.5E
Smoke hangs over Bangladesh and parts of neighboring India and Myanmar. Eosnap previously observed smoke in this area in late December (click here for previous article).
As winds have swept the smoke to various areas, its geographical origin is unclear; however, the cause is most likely the agricultural fires that are common to the region.
The tall Himalayas prevent the smoke from spreading northward into China. Strong winds push it outward over the mouths of the Brahmaputra/Jamuna River and over the Bay of Bengal.
