Smoke from fires burning near the Bratsk Reservoir, in Russia, blows northwestward and is then carried towards the east, creating an arch-shaped cloud. Many individual blazes can be discerned in the full image.

The Bratsk Reservoir is n artificial lake on the Angara River, located in Irkutsk Oblast, Russia. It has a surface area of 5470 km2 and a maximum volume of 169.27 × 1012 litres (37.2 × 1012 gallons). Visible to the east and southeast is the significantly larger Lake Baikal.
