Close-up

This image of China shows smoke or haze in the air over the Sichuan Basin, in the province of Sichuan. The Sichuan Basin is framed by mountains on all sides, such the Qionglai Range in the west, Longmen Mountains in the northwest, and the Daba in the northeast.

Tall mountains keep the smoke or haze from spreading westward, although it can be seen spreading north of the basin in the main image. The close-up image focuses onĀ  the basin itself, where the veil is densest in the southwestern portion.
