Smoke from Fires in Bolivia Clouds South American Skies Once Again16.4S 63.5W
Thick smoke is visible once again over large parts of South America, released from devastating fires in Bolivia. Upon opening the full image, some individual blazes can be seen beneath the hazy grey veil.
The worst of the damage from the fires has been to Bolivia’s section of the Amazon, particularly in the eastern part along the country’s border with Brazil. The blazes were caused by farmers using fire to clear land for planting, combined with extreme drought that caused the plants to dry out, allowing the fires to run rampant.
