Mexico - April 8th, 2011

The city of Guadalajara appears as a large grey area just above the northwestern end of the greenish Lake Chapala. Also visible in the image, particularly east of the lake, is smoke from various fires.

The lake is an alpine lake in west-central Mexico, resting at an elevation of 1,500 meters. It is part of the Lerma-Santiago River system, fed mainly by the Lerma River on the east side of the lake and draining into the Rio Grande de Santiago from the northeast corner of the lake.
