Smoke Amidst Sierra Madre del Sur Mountains, Mexico

March 6th, 2013 Category: Fires, Mountains

Mexico – March 5th, 2013

Smoke from fires ablaze in southern Mexico rests among the peaks of the Sierra Madre del Sur mountain range and also drifts over the Pacific Ocean near the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (lower right). Partially hidden by the smoke, the lush green high-altitude forests of the Sierra Madre del Sur are part of some of Mexico’s last remaining large tracts of relatively undisturbed forest.
