Lake Tengiz and Fires in North-Central Kazakhstan

Three fires release plumes of grey smoke towards the southwest in north-central Kazakhstan. Upon opening the full image, two fires can be seen close together in the lower part of the upper left quadrant, with a third blaze to their north.

Near the ridge edge of the image, one can observe the green Tengiz Lake, a saline lake with an area of 1,382 kmĀ², an average depth of 2.5 m and a maximum depth of 6.7 m. Lake Tengiz is an important wetland site for birds.
