High Temperatures Cause New Bushfires in Australia
High temperatures and strong winds have caused new bushfires in Victoria, Australia. Highs of over 32C (90F) are expected for Friday, likely creating extreme fire conditions. The blazes are expected to continue unless rain comes to the area.
One fire is threatening 300 properties near Melbourne, although firefighters are reportedly making good progress in bringing it under control.
Four major fires are also continuing to burn to the east and north-west of Melbourne. Here, smoke from fires still burning in the Victorian Alps is visible.
