Hazy Skies by Lake Tanganyika and Neighbors

8.2S 30.7E

September 14th, 2011 Category: Fires, Lakes

Africa - August 1st, 2011

Lake Tanganyika, shared by Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Tanzania and Zambia, cuts diagonally across this image as a thick, dark-blue line. Smoke from wildfires causes the left half of the image to appear hazy and translucent.

East of the southern tip of Lake Tanganyika is Lake Rukwa, in Tanzania, appearing brownish tan due to sediments. West of the southern tip of Lake Tanganyika are Lakes Mweru Wantipa, in Zambia, and Lake Mweru (furthest west), shared by Zambia and the DRC.
