Fires West of Mississippi River, USA37.5N 91.2W
The main image focuses on two fires west of the Mississippi River Valley. The fires are situated in the state of Missouri, in the Mark Twain National Forest (MTNF). The forest covers approximately 1.5 million acres (6,100 km²), 78,000 acres (320 km²).
Upon opening the full image, many other blazes can be seen to the south, also west of the river, in the states of Arkansas and Louisiana. At the very bottom, tan sediments from the Mississippi River can be observed flowing into the Gulf of Mexico.
