Brazil - August 5th, 2010

Several fires in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso release whitish grey plumes of smoke in a westwardly direction, creating a haze over the green landscape.

The fires are situated west of the Araguaia River, which provides the border between Mato Grosso and the state of Tocantins, to the east. Further east lies the Tocantins River, along which several lakes can be observed.
