Fires can be seen burning in Russia, near the confluence of the Ob and Irtysh Rivers. The plumes of smoke from the blazes blow south-southwest.

The Ob River cross the upper part of the image, while the Irtysh River flows vertically across the right side. The Irtysh is the chief tributary of the Ob River.

Visible to the west in the full image are the Ural Mountains, a mountain range that runs approximately from north to south through western Russia.
