Fires in Northern Australia Near Joseph Bonaparte Gulf – May 17th, 201213.9S 128.9E
Several wildfires can still be observed ablaze in the northern reaches of Australia’s Northern Territory, by the border with Western Australia (click here for previous images). The fires are scattered, but generally near the coast. Nearby, sediments fill the Van Diemen Gulf (appear right quadrant), which appears yellow-green in color, and the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf (center), which appears opaque tan. Visible further offshore are strands of green, which may be from phytoplankton growth rather than the presence of sediments.
