Fires in Brazil Contribute to Cloud of Smoke from Bolivian Fires

12S 50.9W

September 15th, 2010 Category: Fires

Brazil - September 14th, 2010

Fires burning in Brazilian states of Mato Grosso and Tocantins appear to be contributing to the hazy cloud of smoke fires in Bolivia have been producing over the last month.

Multiple plumes of smoke blowing to the southwest  can be seen here (individual plumes best observed in full image). The fires are situated  near the Araguaia River, by both its east and west banks. The river marks the border between Mato Grosso  (west) and Tocantins (east).
