Smoke from Fires in Bolivia and Brazil - September 22nd, 2010

Fires burning in Brazil continue to contribute smoke to the cloud of haze from those burning in Bolivia. Here, the smoke cloud can be observed along the left side of the thumbnail image.

Upon opening the full image, many individual fires can be seen near the Araguaia River, in the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso (west) and Tocantins (east).

The complete extent of the cloud of smoke can also be better observed in the full image, stretching from near the mouth of the Amazon River, in northern Brazil, to below a wide segment of the Paraná River in the south of the country.
