A large, white plume of smoke from a wildfire blazing in a forest near the city of Sydney (visible as a tan area by the coast), in New South Wales, Australia, fans out as it blows southeastward. Earlier this year, the region was stricken with fires due to soaring temperatures, a lack of rain and high winds.
