Fan-shaped Smoke Plume South of Gulf of Carpentaria, Australia – July 8th, 201216.1S 135.7E
Fires continue to burn in the northern part of Australia’s Northern Territory. Most are visible near the coast, particularly by the sediment-filled King Sound on the left side of the image. The largest plume of smoke, however, is visible in the lower right quadrant, south of the Gulf of Carpentaria. Changes in wind direction have caused the smoke plume to fan out over a large area.
