Dust and Smoke Over West Africa - March 18th, 2012

Dust and smoke mingle in the lower part of this image of West Africa, particularly in the lower right quadrant. Fires in this region, particularly near the border of Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea, have been releasing a thick cloud of smoke over the last few days (click here for previous images of the fires).

The region has also be plagued by a dust storm (click here for previous images). While a veil of dust is visible over much of the image, a thicker plume can be seen blowing off the coast of Senegal in the lower left quadrant.
