Dust and Smoke Over West Africa - March 21st, 2012

Dust and smoke blow off the coast of Senegal and Guinea Bissau, stretching out over the Atlantic Ocean to the south of the Cape Verde archipelago. Extremely dry conditions in West Africa have lead to fires and intense dust storms in the region over the past week (click here for previous images). Here, partially visible through the haze, is the mouth of the Geba River and the sediments it is releasing into the ocean.
