Clusters of Fires in Russia Northwest of Lake Chany – October 21st, 201054.9N 77.4E
Fires in Russia, near the country’s border with Kazakhstan, release thick plumes of smoke that are blowing in a north-northwestward direction.
The plumes of smoke in the upper part of the image are created by clusters of fires. Upon opening the full image, other smaller blazes can be seen to the west.
Fires plagued this same region just a few months ago, destroying homes and causing multiple deaths and injuries (click here for previous articles).
Also visible in this image are several lakes, the largest of which is Lake Chany. The lake, green in color and surrounded by wetlands, is located to the southeast of the two large clusters of fires in the top half of the image.
