Blowing Sands Over Taklamakan Desert, China

38.0N 81.3E

December 7th, 2010 Category: Deserts, Dust Storms, Fires, Lakes, Mountains

China - December 6th, 2010

Sand blows about over the Taklamakan Desert, giving it a hazy appearance in this image of China and northern India (the latter visible in the full image). Parts of India south of the Himalayas also appear hazy, due to the presence of smoke from agricultural fires.

In the section of the image with clear skies, between the desert and the mountains, multiple bodies of water dotting the terrain of the Tibetan Lakes Region can be observed.
