Plume of Dust Extending Over Nile Delta and Off Egyptian Coast

31.6N 30.6E

May 10th, 2011 Category: Dust Storms, Rivers

Egypt - May 2nd, 2011

A yellow-tan plume of dust from the Sahara Desert blows northeastward from the coast of Egypt and over the Mediterranean Sea. Part of the plume trails over the Nile Delta.

In the full image, while the plume blows in a generally northeastwardly direction, cross-currents and differences in pressure in the air can be seen creating multiple rows of parallel lines, perpendicular to the main plume.
