High Temperatures, Dust Affect Canary Islands27.9N 15.3W
Dust from the Sahara Desert blows off the coast of Morocco and Western Sahara, over the Canary Islands, and far north over the Atlantic Ocean. The scorching temperatures and dust cloud that arrived in the Canaries at the week-end are now expected to remain until Thursday. The heatwave is to stay longer than originally anticipated and warns temperatures may rise even further. The forecast has prompted the Department of Health to advise people to stay indoors where possible and not do anything strenuous when outside. People with allergies and respiratory conditions are advised to keep doors and windows closed to prevent the pervasive dust from entering their homes.
