A dust storm is currently raging over the southern Arabian Peninsula, particularly over southern Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

In the main image on the left, a veil of dust particles is covering the southernmost parts of the peninsula.

In the smaller images, the progression of the storm over the last few hours can be observed.

The greyscale images, from MeteoSat VISSR satellite data, show that the amount of dust blowing out to sea increased over a six-hour time interval.

The colored images, from MeteoSat SEVIRI data, show a denser dust cloud in the earlier image, and a less dense but more diffused cloud in the later image.
