Dust Spreads off Coast of Pakistan’s Province of Balochistan25.4N 63.9E
Sand blows off the coast of Pakistan (upper right), near the border with Iran (upper left), and over the Arabian Sea east of Oman (bottom left). The area of Pakistan visible is part of the Makran region of Balochistan Province, which is the largest province in the country by geographical area, constituting approximately 44% of Pakistan’s total area.
Much of the southern part of the province is sparse desert terrain with pockets of towns mostly near rivers and streams. While coastal winters may be mild, summers are hot and dry. Occasionally strong windstorms make these areas very inhospitable, whipping up dust and sand as seen here.
