Dust Spreading Towards Cape Verde

Dust off West Africa - March 11th, 2012

A veil of dust blows over Mauritania (above) and Senegal (below), and spreads off the western coast of Africa towards the Cape Verde Islands. The veil appears more opaque in some areas than others, particularly in the upper left quadrant.

Visible through the dust on the right side of the image are the Bay of Arguin (above, green with phytoplankton growth) and the Senegal River (center, appearing as a greenish line).
