Dust Over Farasan Islands, Saudi Arabia
Sand from Saudi Arabia’s Rub al Khali Desert blows over the southern end of the Red Sea, across the Farasan Islands and towards Eritrea (below). The Farasan Islands are a large coral island group belonging to Saudi Arabia. They are located some 40 km offshore from Jizan, in the far southwestern part of the country. They form a protected area that, in winter, is home to migratory birds from Europe.
