Dust Over Bay of Arguin and Ras Nouadhibou Peninsula, West Africa
21.5N 17.6WA thick cloud of dust blows across dry northwestern Africa and over the Ras Nouadhibou Peninsula, divided between Morocco/Western Sahara (north) and Mauritania (south). The dust completely obscures the usually bright green waters of the Bay of Arguin, just south of the peninsula.
Upon opening the full image, the Canary Islands can be seen to the north, as well as the Cape Verde Archipelago to the south. West of Cape Verde, on the left edge of the full image, is some convection associated with Hurricane Julia (12L), which recently passed by the islands.
