Dust blows northeastward off the coast of Egypt, between Mersa Matruh (west) and El Alamein (east), reaching over the Mediterranean Sea.

The land along the coast belongs to Egypt’s Matrouh Governorate, located in the north-western part of the country and bordering Libya. The interior of the Matrouh Governorate is part of the Libyan Desert.
