Dust Blowing Across Caspian Sea, South of Volga Delta – June 1st, 2012

Caspian Sea - May 31st, 2012

A plume of dust blows across the Caspian Sea. In the full image, it can be seen extending westwards, almost reaching the Black Sea. The dust does not reach north to the Volga Delta, visible at the top of the image. Sediments from the Volga River can be seen pouring through the delta and into the northern part of the sea, encouraging phytoplankton growth and coloring its waters bright green.
