Dust and Phytoplankton in Iran – March 24th, 201232.2N 53.0E
The opaque tan color in the lower right quadrant of this image is from a dust storm over Iran. Dust storms have been afflicting Africa, the Middle East and parts of Asia over the last week (click here for previous images).
Visible in the upper left corner are sediments entering the Caspian Sea, turning its waters a light, milky blue color. These sediments are problably accompanied by phytoplankton growth, as they introduce extra nutrients, off of which the tiny microorganisms feed, into the water.
