Libya - November 29th, 2010

Clouds form around dust particles in the atmosphere blowing off the coast of Libya and over the Mediterranean Sea. The dust is probably from the extremely arid Libyan Desert, which has many ergs (“seas” of sand dunes).

Visible in the lower part of the image is the Haruj Volcanic Field., appearing dark brown in color. The field stretches over 45000 km2 in the central part of the country.
